The Volkswagen Group-owned Skoda Auto has registered the highest monthly sales fig in March 2022. With a total of 5,608 units sold in March 2022, the company has registered a 383.6% YoY growth compared to 1,159 units in March 2021. Along with this Skoda has also recorded the highest quarterly sales for the brand in its 20 years of history in India. They have managed to sell 13,120 units in the first quarter of 2022.
Looks like the brand’s new India 2.0 strategy of introducing new products on a new platform and a high level of localization of resources has panned out. The MQB A0 IN platform specifically made for the Indian market has helped them to develop the Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan. With 2 engine options and a striking new design, both cars have attracted a lot of customers.
Skoda March 2022 sales breakdown[table id=109 /]
Skoda saw a huge improvement in Feb 2022 sales with 4,503 units sold. This was a massive 50% MoM Growth compared to Jan 2022 sales. Their MoM Growth in March 2022 is 24.53%. The momentum has been carried forward and they have only seen positive growth this year. The YoY Growth is also 5 times higher than March 2021.
Their prior monthly highest was in June 2012 with 4,923 units. They came close in Feb 2022, but in March they surpassed their best-ever sales.
Comparing their quarterly sales to 2021, they only sold 3,016 units between Jan and March 2021. So this is a 335% increase in quarterly sales (13,120 units in 2022).
Skoda’s new products
The Skoda Kushaq and the Slavia have been well received by the Indian customers. Even though they don’t have a diesel engine option compared to their rivals they are feature-filled and fun to drive.
Both cars have 2 TSI petrol engine options. The 1.0-litre engine makes 110 hp and the 1.5-litre engine makes 150 hp. Both have a standard 5-speed MT but the smaller engine gets a 6-speed automatic whereas the bigger engine is coupled to a 7-speed DSG.
Skoda has readied the Kushaq Monte Carlo edition. It was spied in one of Skoda’s dealerships. Comes with only cosmetics updates and a dual-tone colour scheme.
Skoda is also evaluating a new subcompact SUV for India. Termed as India 2.5 project the SUV will be based on the same MQB A0 IN platform with slight modifications.
