Skoda has named its all-new midsize sedan, the Slavia, ahead of its launch later this year. It will go on sale in 2022, and it will be Skoda’s second new vehicle under the VW Group’s India 2.0 initiative, following the Kushaq.

The Slavia will be the successor to the ageing Rapid sedan. But it will neither carry the same brand nor be a straight replacement, as we previously reported. It will be more spacious than the Rapid, Being extremely well-equipped. Two TSI turbo-petrol engine options will be available.

What we know about the new Skoda Slavia car so far

The new Skoda Slavia, like the Kushaq SUV, will be built on the specialised MQB-AO-IN platform and will be roughly 4,480mm long with the longest wheelbase (2,651mm) in the sector. This would make it longer than the existing Rapid which improves legroom.

Multiple times in India, test mules of the new Skoda Slavia have been spotted. The Slavia will have a new-age Skoda grille, unique character lines, and a sleek and well-proportioned design, according to these photos. It will share some body panels with the Volkswagen Virtus, its sibling vehicle.

A new ‘Play’ touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, ‘My Skoda’ connected car tech, Wireless charging, a digital instrument cluster, leatherette upholstery, ventilated seats, a premium audio system, as well as auto headlamps and wipers, are all expected to be included in the new Slavia.

Expected engine options for the new Skoda Slavia sedan

The Skoda Slavia will be launched with two turbo-petrol engines. The first being a 115hp, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI petrol engine with a 6-speed manual or torque converter automatic transmission. The second option is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI engine with 150 horsepower. This comes with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission. This setup should provide class-leading performance.

Rivals of the new Skoda Slavia sedan

In terms of rivals, the Skoda Slavia will have to compete against Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. In addition, it will also go against its sibling, the Volkswagen Virtus. Skoda is likely to position the Slavia on the top end of the mid-size sedan segment due to its size and degree of equipment.
