Skoda is finally launching the long-awaited 2021 Octavia on June 10th. The company confirmed the launch on Wednesday on its Twitter account. The launch is a virtual event and reservations have started. However, the company had already started the production of the car in its Aurangabad facility. The new model has already been dispatched to the dealers. Few dealers have started accepting pre-bookings for the new Octavia.
The 2021 Octavia for all global markets was first unveiled two years ago. But in India, Skoda unveiled the Octavia in 2021. Skoda had plans of launching the car in late April or early May. The company also had the first batch of cars rolled out from its Aurangabad plant even before the launch. It got cancelled because of the Covid 19 Pandemic.
Engine options
Unfortunately for some diesel fans, the car unlike its predecessor will only be offered with a petrol engine. It will feature a 2.0L TSI turbo petrol engine which churns out 190bhp and 320nm of torque. It gets the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard.
Design details of the Skoda Octavia 2021
The Octavia has been one of the best performing models for Skoda and will be based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB EVO platform. Dimension-wise the Octavia is 19mm longer and 15mm wider than the predecessor, but the wheelbase is 2,686mm which is retained. Skoda has given the car a refreshed design and upgrades both on the inside and outside the car.
The Octavia gets a redesigned grille, which looks similar to the Superb and wider than the previous model. Instead of the quad headlamp setup, Skoda has decided to go with a single piece LED headlights. It also gets new 17-inch alloy wheels, sloping roofline, angular tailgate, split LED taillights. The cabin is also redesigned dashboard with a 10-inch infotainment system with Andriod Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. A 10.25-inch virtual digital instrument console, with a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel.
Skoda is going to price the car between Rs. 27 lakh to 30 lakh ex-showroom. The only rival for the 2021 Octavia will be Hyundai’s Elantra sedan. Skoda has plans to launch the mid-size Kushaq SUV, facelift of the Kodiac and an all-new mid-size sedan which will replace the Rapid, by the end of this year.
