Skoda Auto has released two new design sketches of the Slavia sedan. Slavia has been one of the most awaited sedans of the year. It is the second car from the carmakers India 2.0 strategy underpinning the MQB AO IN platform.

The Slavia is slated to debut on the 18th of November. It will replace the brand’s ageing old Rapid sedan. Skoda promises the midsize sedan to feature an emotive design language, balanced proportions and a coupe-style silhouette.

We had only seen the Slavia in its orange camo while testing on the Indian roads. The two new images reveal the overall exterior sketch of the Slavia. The front gets the unmistakable Skoda hexagonal grille with sleek LED headlights and L-shaped LED DRLs. The side profile gets two distinct character lines across the window line and side skirts.

The sketches show a new 5-spoke alloy wheel design, different from the ones seen on the test mule. The sloping roofline at the rear gives it a coupe-like stance. The rear gets sharp C-shaped taillights with the brand name spelt across the boot lid.

What do we know about the Slavia?

For starters, the Slavia will be bigger in dimension compared to the Rapid. It is likely to measure 4,541mm in length, 1,487mm in height, 1,752 mm in width and 2,651mm of wheelbase. Compared to the Rapid, Slavia is almost 130mm longer, 53mm wider, 22mm higher and has 100mm more wheelbase. The extra dimension will improve the legroom with better comfort and space.

Slavia, similar to the Kushaq features two different petrol engines. The 1.0-Litre TSI engine makes 114bhp and 175Nm of torque. And the 1.5-Litre TSI engine produces 150Bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both engines come with a standard 6-speed manual transmission. However, the smaller motor gets an optional 6-speed torque convertor and the bigger engine gets a 7-speed DCT gearbox.

Skoda has focused on introducing more features in Slavia to close up the gap to its competition. However, we still don’t have the entire list of features for the sedan. It is likely to feature 6-airbags, cruise control, a digital instrument cluster, multi-collision brake, a rear parking camera.

The Slavia is aimed to be placed against all the midsize sedans in India. Includes Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Honda City, the upcoming VW Virtus and the upcoming Toyota Belta. The sedan is expected to be priced around Rs. 10 to 16 lakh ex-showroom.
