Is it no surprise that the Japanese electronics manufacturer, Sony, has decided to enter the EV market. They also showcased the Vision-S electric saloon back in 2020 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). In the ongoing CES event, Sony showcased their newest concept, the Vision-S 02 SUV along with Vision-S 01.

Sony had previously invested in the development of battery electric vehicles. The Vision-S concept was showcased a couple of years ago and was spotted testing several times in Europe.
The Japanese tech firm has now confirmed to launch a new division called Sony Mobility Inc. They aim to launch the new division in spring, between March and May 2022. Kenichiro Yoshida, Chairman and President of Sony Mobility Inc mentioned “Sony is exploring a commercial launch very soon. With our imaging and sensing, cloud, 5G and entertainment technologies combined with our content mastery, we believe Sony is well-positioned as a creative entertainment company to redefine mobility. ”
The Sony Vision-S 02
The next project for Sony Mobility is the Vision-S 02 concept. The prototype was showcased at the CES 2022 event which caught a lot of attention. However, Sony didn’t give away much about the concept.
The Vision-S 02 concept uses the same platform that underpins the Vision-S 01 saloon. The SUV will host two 200kW electric motors on each axle (all-wheel drive) making almost 270hp. The 7-seater will measure 4.89m in length, 1.93m in width and 1.65m in height.

The first thing you notice inside the cabin is the large panoramic touchscreen in the front. The touchscreen spanning the width of the car makes your travel time fun and entertaining. There are plenty of movies and games to enjoy on the drive. The individual seat speakers and the others spread across the cabin creates a mesmerizing 360 reality audio experience.
Sony also aims to provide their EVs with Autonomous driving systems. The Vision-S 02 uses 40 different sensors installed both inside and outside the vehicle to constantly monitor the situation. This provides a 360-degree view of the vehicle’s surrounding and also monitor the condition of the driver. The information sensed in real-time by the system is constantly fed to the driver.
The SUV has a ton of safety features such as highway assist, automated valet parking, lane change proposal, advanced camera monitoring system, lane change decision aid system in-cabin driver monitoring system and more.
