Car sales have been bad for all carmakers in May 2021. The ongoing second wave of the Pandemic is affecting a lot of sectors, including automotive. All carmakers have witnessed negative growth in month-on-month (MoM) sales. Car giant Maruti Suzuki saw a massive drop in sales of the Vitara Brezza, which has dropped to 4th position on the list. Take a look at the sub-4 meter compact SUV sales in May 2021.
|SUV||May 2021 sales||April 2021 sales||Growth percentage||Market share (May 2021)|
|Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza||2,648||11,220||-76.4||10.85|
|Toyota Urban Cruiser||373||2,155||-82.69||1.53|
Kia Sonet has experienced a growth of -14.2% in May 2021 but holds the top position with 6,627 units sold compared to 7,724 units in April 2021. Tata Nexon takes the 2nd spot with 6,439 units sold in May 2021 compared to 6,938 units in April 2021. This is an MoM growth of -7.19% which happens to be the least drop in sales on the list.
The next on the list is the Hyundai Venue which takes the 3rd spot with a total sales of 4,840 units in May 2021. The growth is -56.96% which has come down from 11,245 units in April 2021. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza takes the 4th spot with just 2,648 units sold in May 2021 which managed 11,220 units in April 2021. This is a growth of -76.4%, which might be the result of Maruti Shutting down its plant in May for maintenance.
The Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Ford Ecosport, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Mahindra XUV300, Honda WR-V are the next on the list taking 5th spot and so on respectively. Honda has the least number of sales with its SUV, the WR-V only managed a handful of 192 units in May 2021. But Mahindra XUV300 has the highest growth of -93.94% which managed a total sales of 251 units in May 2021 compared to 4,144 units in April 2021.
The Covid-19 cases across the country have been reducing day by day, this could be a good sign of all states lifting their lockdown restrictions and getting things back on track. If this is the case, we can expect the sales figures to go up in a couple of months. But we can’t be sure about anything with the third wave expected to hit India soon.
