The fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift has been on the run for four long years. The automaker has realized it’s high time to roll out an updated version of the popular hatchback. In fact, Swift has a Sportier version called Swift sports, which is available in the international markets. Maruti also plans in bringing out a new micro SUV based on the swift. This new car will be called the Swift cross and will compete with the likes of Tata Punch.

The new generation Swift from Suzuki would be based on an updated version of the Heartect platform, which is also the basis of the current model. Upcoming swift will come with a completely different exterior and interior styling. The new Swift will reach the markets in the year 2023. The upcoming model will feature the same 1.4-litre engine seen in the current version. Moreover, the upcoming model will be turbocharged and will be integrated with a 48V mild-hybrid system. This will provide the upcoming swift with enhanced performance and fuel efficiency. The Swift Sport, of course, will sport a sportier design to shine its glory and will likely also feature a stiffer suspension setup.

The updated powertrain and the platform will be used in developing a new SUV. This SUV will be called Swift Cross and it is said to debut about 2024. Furthermore, this new micro SUV will get unique sheet metal panels, increased ground clearance, thick plastic coating on the body, and skid plates for that typical SUV look. The body will also be bold and boxier compared to the Swift Sport, thus promoting more space and features inside the cabin for enhanced comfort. Suzuki offers AWD setup for small cars such as Ignis, in the international market. We expect the new Swift cross to come with a similar AWD system.

Maruti’s future plans for the Indian market

Maruti Suzuki has great things planned for the future to continue its streak as the top-selling automaker in the country. We can expect multiple new entrants in the upcoming years, like a Baleno-based crossover, 5-Door Jimny, and the Swift cross. Other launches planned for the upcoming year are the new Vitara Brezza, XL6, and Baleno.
