India’s best-seller electric car, the Nexon EV is getting a new addition to the lineup. Tata Motors will introduce the Nexon EV Long Range on the 20th of April. Tata has consistently led EV sales in India for a long time. Better pricing, reasonable mileage and satisfying features are the keys to the success of Nexon EV. 

But Tata is not ready to stop there. With the Nexon EV long range, they will improve the range and offer better features. So what exactly have they done? Here are the 6 things to look out for in the upcoming Nexon EV Long Range. 

1. Bigger Battery 

According to reports, the Nexon EV long-range will feature a bigger battery than the regular Nexon EV. The current model gets the 30.2 kWh battery pack but the long-range will likely get a 40 kWh battery.  That is almost 32% bigger. This improves both range and car performance. 

2. Improved Mileage

Of course, a bigger battery results in an improved range. The existing Nexon EV is claimed to go 312 km (ARAI) on a single charge. Now that the long-range model can hold more charge, the range is expected to be 400+ km. However, the cars don’t reach these figures in real-time, but the range improvement is guaranteed in the long-range model. 

3. Feature loaded 

Along with the existing features on the Nexon EV, the long-range will now additionally get ventilated front seats. This was only available in Kona amongst the rivals. It also gets cruise control, an electronic stability program, park mode and an air purifier. 

4. Brake Regeneration 

The ongoing Nexon EV also gets brake regeneration but it’s a completely different thing in the long-range model. The current variable brake regeneration will be replaced with selectable regenerative braking. Meaning the driver has the option to select the intensity of regeneration. When set to the highest setting the upcoming Nexon EV can recharge better on the go and improve its range. 

5. Priced better than rivals 

Undoubtedly the long-range Nexon EV will cost more than the ongoing model. The current Nexon EV price starts from Rs. 14.54 and goes up to Rs. 17.15 lakh. With the long-range getting some premium features and a better battery it might reach the 20 lakh mark. But this is still cheaper than the rivals.

The Nexon EV long-range challenging the Kona Electric and ZS EV is still expected to be cheap. Buyers will still have a car with a similar range and features for a better price which could be a deal-breaker here. 

6. Design changes 

Visually the changes to the long-range model will be minimum to none. We don’t expect any cosmetic changes on the inside as well, but the storage space will take a hit. To accommodate the bigger battery, the car will likely lose some boot space. The existing 350 litres of boot space will come down. 

The ZS EV is the costliest among them and has better features and the biggest battery. The Kona matches the Nexon EV long range in terms of features and specs. So the real question is how will Tata price the car? We need to wait until the launch on the 20th. Stay tuned for further details.
