In India, the Tata Nexon EV has been a smashing success, with over 500 units sold every month since its inception. Given the demand for these cars, its Korean and Chinese competitors are already planning to enter the category with their respective tiny EVs.

Then there’s the fact that Tata Motors is preparing to debut the Altroz EV in India. Which is most likely the automaker’s next EV introduction for the market. The new Tata Punch, like the Altroz, maintains the ALFA design, so we now know that the framework is ready for Electric Vehicles.

Is the ‘Punch’ ready to make the switch?

Following the official unveiling of the SUV, when Tata Motors management was approached about this, they assured that if there is a demand for an EV in this sector. The business will not hesitate to release an electric version of the Punch. We’ve already mentioned that the ALFA architecture on which the Punch is built is EV ready. And we’ve already seen the Altroz EV built on it.

We first saw a prototype version of the Altroz EV at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019. Later we got another chance to see it in person at Auto Expo 2020.

Punch EV Specs

While it is too early to comment on the technical specifications, Tata has already stated that the Ziptron powertrain will be used in all of its future electric vehicles, beginning with the Nexon EV. As a result, the automobile will include a Lithium-Ion battery pack with IP-67 certification and an 8-year warranty. Furthermore, all Ziptron-powered EVs will have a range of more than 250 kilometers on a single charge. This could give the edge for the Punch to profit from the switch.

Tata Motors is already spending big on electric vehicles. As seen by the fact that it recently unveiled the country’s most affordable EV, the Tigor EV. If the firm decides to compete with the Tigor with another electric vehicle, the Punch may be a good fit.
