The passenger vehicle CNG segment is dominated by Maruti at the moment. Hyundai is in the second spot, but there is not much competition going on. Realising this, Tata Motors is now willing to enter the CNG passenger vehicle segment. According to reports, Tata will launch the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG in January 2022

Like the normal version, both Tiago and Tigor CNG will have the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which makes 85hp and 113Nm. Under CNG influence it will only make 70hp and 90Nm. As for the transmission, it will carry forward the same 5-speed manual transmission.

As for the design, interior and features, Tata is likely to carry forward the same for both cars. The only update is going to be the powertrain.

However, it seems that few Tata dealerships across India have already started unofficial pre-bookings for the CNG’s. Tata will officially open the bookings prior to the launch.

The Punch CNG was also spied testing, but we are not sure about the launch. If it does, it will have the same 1.2-litre revetron engine

The Tiago and Tigor CNG versions have been spotted testing on several occasions. In the recent spy video, we can see the Tiago and Tigor CNG testing along with the Punch CNG. The recently launched Punch micro SUV has helped Tata motors massively in terms of sales. By expanding its portfolio, Tata would love to increase their market share.

The Tiago CNG will take on the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG, Hyundai Santro CNG and the upcoming Maruti Swift CNG and Celerio CNG. The sedan, Tigor CNG will take on the Hyundai Aura CNG and the upcoming Maruti Swift Dzire CNG.

With petrol and diesel prices skyrocketing at the moment, CNG could be a viable option. Even though Maruti is on top of the CNG segment they want to improve. They are testing a bunch of cars that will likely launch in the coming months. If the reports are true, we can expect the Swift CNG, Swift Dzire CNG, Vitara CNG and Celerio CNG.
