On the outskirts of Chennai, the Ford EcoSport facelift was spotted completely undisguised while undergoing testing. In the coming months, the updated compact SUV is expected to hit showrooms.
What’s New in the For EcoSport
The spy photos reveal some key details about the Ford EcoSport’s upcoming facelift. It gets a new front bumper and fog lamp housings, as well as a reshaped front grille with new inserts and chrome lining around the edges. The new inverted L-shaped LED DRLs are positioned around the fog lamps, and a faux skid plate is located lower down on the bumper. The package also includes new alloy wheels.
Aside from these, the EcoSport facelift isn’t expected to bring many exterior changes. The headlights, taillights, and ORVMs appear to be the same as the previous model in the spy photos. The images don’t reveal any interior details, but expect Ford to upgrade the SUV’s cabin with modern textures and much more features.
Engine Specs
The EcoSport facelift should carry the powertrain options of its predecessor while no official confirmation has yet been issued. This means the compact SUV will be available with either a 100 horsepower 1.5-litre turbo diesel or a 123 horsepower 1.5-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. Both engines are expected to come standard with 5-speed manual transmissions, with the petrol engine keeping the 6-speed torque converter automatic option from the outgoing model.
A 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine from Mahindra’s mStallion family was also planned, but due to the fallout from Ford and Mahindra strategic partnership earlier this year, those plans have been shelved.
Indian Rivals
Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger are among the compact SUVs competing against the Ford EcoSport facelift.
Since 2013, EcoSport has been present in India and regularly updated its features, gear, design and mechanicals so that it remains competent in the ever-growing compact SUV market. Ford’s EcoSport continues to be a key model, not just in India but around the world. The SUV is manufactured in India and distributed throughout North and South America.
Ford also sells the Figo hatchback, the Freestyle cross-hatch, the Aspire compact sedan, and the Endeavour SUV in India, in addition to the EcoSport. The Figo now has a new automatic transmission from the American brand.
