Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the new GT 63 S E Performance 4-Door Coupé, which kicks off the company’s electrified era. This 843hp super sedan, which is AMG’s first-ever plug-in hybrid, will compete in International markets with the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
Affalterbach’s first plug-in hybrid model, based on the V8-powered GT 63 S 4-Door Coupé, combines a 639hp twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre petrol engine with a 204hp electric motor on the rear axle in a new arrangement known as the P3 drive system. It is said to give optimized weight distribution and the quickest possible torque deployment because it is derived from Mercedes-Formula AMG’s 1 racer’s hybrid drivetrain.
With more power (843hp) and torque (1,400Nm) than any other AMG model, it will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and top out at 316 km/h. In terms of outright speed, it matches the smaller and more track-focused GT Black Series two-door introduced last year.
The electric motor is powered by a 400V battery pack with a capacity of 6.1kWh. It was claimed that it weighs only 89 kg and is designed for fast power supply and drawing and not as long as possible. Mercedes claims that the new PHEV can travel 12 kilometers on a single charge, with the electric motor alone capable of propulsion at speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour. Electricity is said to be “always available,” allowing for faster acceleration out of corners and overtaking manoeuvres.
In certain driving situations, regenerative braking with four levels of severity is also available, allowing one-pedal driving. In addition, the new model is expected to emit 196 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
Philipp Schiemer, chairman of AMG, stated, “We’re bringing our brand DNA into the future with the new GT 63 S E Performance [4-Door Coupé]. We’re following our own technical path in doing so, which has always made AMG unique and desirable. The performance hybrid developed entirely in Affalterbach, offers a fascinating level of driving dynamics and proudly wears our new technology label “E Performance.” We’re also reaching out to new target groups with this new concept, allowing them to experience Mercedes-AMG as the 21st century’s performance luxury brand.”
Interiors And Exteriors
The only visual differences from the standard car are a new front bumper inspired by the two-door GT, bespoke badging, new exhaust outlets, and exclusive 20-inch and 21-inch wheel designs. The PHEV is otherwise identical to the recently facelifted GT 4-Door Coupé in terms of appearance and performance.
Inside, there are a number of hybrid-specific displays for the MBUX infotainment system, including an EV range indicator, real-time power consumption data, and an electric motor power gauge, just as there are for other Mercedes PHEV models.
Lineup In India
Mercedes-AMG is expected to lower the price of the E Performance model in India, where the GT 63 S four-door coupe is already on sale but no official confirmation is still available. Mercedes-AMG also retails in India, apart from its four-door GT, a variety of performance SUVs, cuts and sedan, including the launched E 63 S and GLE 63 S Coupe. With the AMG A 35 sedan and the AMG GLA 35 SUV, Mercedes’ performance arm has begun local assembly in India.
