We saw some impressive car launches in 2021 such as the Mahindra XUV700, Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Slavia, Tata Punch and more. But the year 2022 is also going to amaze all car enthusiasts. We expect a few exciting cars to be launched this year. We have already witnessed the Skoda Kodiaq resurrecting after 2 years and the Toyota Camry facelift launched in 2022. In this article, we will cover the next big car launches in 2022 from different carmakers.
The market-leading carmaker has had a good 2021 taking the top spot in the sales chart. For 2022 they have some cars lined up such as the second generation Vitara Brezza, Baleno facelift and the Off-roader Jimny. The Baleno being the first car to come will receive mild updates overall. The premium hatchback is set to launch in the last weeks of February 2022.
The second-generation Vitara will receive a massive update overall with updated premium features. The next in line is the Jimny which will rival the Mahindra Thar. The car was supposed to come last year but got postponed because of the pandemic. We are certain that Maruti will launch the Jimny this year. Apart from this, Maruti-Toyota have been working on a mid-size SUV which rivals Hyundai Creta.
Toyota has already kick-started the year with the Camry facelift launch. The mid-size sedan is priced at ₹41.7 lakh and will compete against the Skoda Superb. The next big launch from the Japanese carmaker is the Hilux pickup truck. Toyota has officially teased the pickup truck and has commenced bookings. The Hilux will be launched on the 20th of January. It has a single rival, the Isuzu Hi-Lander and V-Cross.
Hyundai has already launched the Creta facelift in last year GIIAS. The SUV has received major design updates that go with Hyundai’s new design language. We expect the Creta facelift to be introduced in the second half of 2022.
Also, there are many spy shots of the Venue facelift and Tucson facelift circulating online. These SUVs will also follow the new design language. Hyundai will bring these updated models this year to keep up with the competition.
The most awaited SUV is the Mahindra Scorpio next-gen. The SUV has been spied multiple times in disguise and was planned to come last year. Like many cars, the Scorpio next-gen launch was also pushed because of the pandemic causing semiconductor shortage. But it is certain that Mahindra will launch the SUV this year alongside the previous generation Scorpio.
Another anticipated launch from the homegrown carmaker is the eKUV100. The electric compact SUV will be the cheapest electric car in the country when launched. It is slated to come in March of 2022.
Tata Motors launched the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG today. The local carmaker has also invested crores into their new EV division called the TPEML. This division will design and develop new EV platforms for all their future EVs.
Tata is working on a long-range version of the best selling EV in the country, the Nexon EV. It will feature a bigger 40kWh battery pack with the range increased to over 400kms. Tata aims to launch this EV in mid of 2022. Along with this Tata has also lined up to launch the Tiago EV, Altroz EV in 2022.
Mercedes have queued a list of cars to launch this year. In addition to the EQC, Mercedes will also add the EQS luxury sedan EV to their portfolio. The luxury EV will feature the biggest battery seen in a production car and will go on sale by the end of 2022.
The German carmaker will also introduce the 6th generation C-Class and the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class this year.
BMW launched the iX all-electric SUV in India in December 2021. Priced at ₹1.16 crore, the iX first batch is already sold out and customers need to wait until bookings commence again.
BMW will start 2022 with the launch of the X3 facelift tomorrow. The minor updates keep the SUV up to date against the competition. They will also launch the i4 all-electric sedan later this year. It will be the 3rd addition from the BMW group to their EV lineup in India after iX and the Mini Cooper SE.
Other car launches
It doesn’t stop here, other carmakers such as Jeep, MG, Citroen, VW also plan on introducing new cars in 2022. Jeep will bring in the new 7-seater SUV named Meridian. It is based on the Compass platform and will rival the newly launched VW Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq and Toyota Fortuner.
Volkswagen will introduce the Virtus sedan, based on the MQB AO IN platform that underpins the Slavia, Kushaq and Taigun. Citroen will bring in their second offering in India, the C3 compact SUV. It is locally designed and produced which will take on the Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
