We recently witnessed the Glanza in its all-new avatar. The new hatch is packed with some goodies and looks stunning on the outside. Toyota is not ready to stop there. Toyota wants to get into the CNG segment and is likely to launch the Glanza CNG in the coming months.

Earlier there were speculations of the Toyota Innova Crysta getting a factory-fitted CNG kit. Toyota neither confirmed it nor denied it. But now reports claim that the Glanza will be their first CNG offering in India.

Toyota Glanza CNG: What do we know?

The Glanza is now offered in 4 different trims i.e the E, S, G & V. We don’t expect the top trim to get a CNG variant. So the E & S trims are most likely to feature the CNG variant. The Glanza price starts from Rs. 6.39 lakh and goes up to Rs. 9.69 lakh. So whichever trim gets the CNG variants will probably cost 1 lakh more.

This goes with the trend Maruti is already using. For example, the WagonR CNG is offered only in the base trim LXI and mid-trim VXI. The WagonR LXI 1.0-litre is priced at Rs. 5.39 lakh whereas the LXI CNG 1.0-litre will cost Rs. 6.34 lakh.

On the outside, the Toyota Glanza CNG will not have any updates compared to its ICE counterpart. The change happens under the hood. The existing 1.2-litre K12N petrol engine gets the CNG treatment. And the car will lose some boot space to accommodate the CNG tank.

The petrol Glanza gives 22.9 kmpl of mileage, whereas the Glanza CNG is expected to give 25 kmpl

Launch

There is no official confirmation of the Toyota Glanza CNG launch. But it could happen by the end of 2022. Maruti will supply the CNG engine for the Glanza as well. So the 2022 Baleno CNG is also in the cards. Glanza CNG or the Baleno CNG, whichever comes first will be the segment-first car to feature a CNG option. None of the rivals, Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz and Honda Jazz features a CNG trim.

Toyota is also getting into the hydrogen FCEV business in India. They recently launched the Mirai FCEV in India and aim to use the FCEV technology for commercial purposes as well.
