Toyota launched its bestselling pickup truck, the Hilux in India. Toyota will announce the prices for the same later this year before the deliveries commence. The Hilux is a legendary truck from the Japanese automaker with over 20 million units sold in 180 counties. The Hilux will come in two different trims, Low and High. You can now book the Hilux through the Toyota website or the nearest dealership. Moreover, the booking amount is ₹1 lakh and the deliveries will begin from March 2022.
Exterior and Interior styling
The Hilux comes to India in a Double-cab body style. This gives the Pickup truck a rugged and refined look. The Hilux is 5,325mm long, 1,855mm wide, and 1,815mm tall. and comes with a wheelbase of 3,085 mm. Yes, Hilux is a massive vehicle.
Furthermore, the Hilux resembles the Fortuner a bit. At the front Hilux gets a boxy swept-back LED headlamps and a trapezoidal grille with a chrome surround. The front bumper comes with contrasting inserts for the fog lamp and a large and rugged-looking skid plate at the bottom. From the side profile, the Hilux really looks heavy-duty with the double-cab design. Other highlights of the side profile are 18-inch alloy wheels and chrome trims for aesthetics.
The Hilux is available in 5 distinct paint schemes – Emotional Red, Gray Metallic, White Pearl CS, Silver Metallic, and Super White.
In terms of interior features, the Hilux comes equipped with an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple car play connectivity. It also includes Dual-zone auto Aircons, leather upholstery, soft-touch panels, Smart storage spaces, large cup holders, etc.
Toyota Hilux: Safety
The Hilux has a 5-star NCAP safety rating. The safety features in the Hilux include Multiple airbags in both rows, Tyre angle monitor, active traction control, limited-slip differential, variable flow to steering, etc. Also, the Hilux comes with a water wading capacity of 700mm.
Toyota Hilux: Powertrain
Under the hood, the Hilux gets a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. This is the same engine in Fortuner but with a different tuning. This motor can produce 204hp of power and 420Nm of peak torque. Furthermore, the automatic variant generates 500Nm of torque. Transmission options available in the Hilux are a 6-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Hilux comes in a single 4×4 configuration. The low-range gearbox helps in providing enhanced off-road ability. Moreover, the truck gets front and rear differential locks and has an approach angle of 29 degrees and a departure angle of 26 degrees.
The Hilux is will rival the likes of lifestyle pickup trucks such as the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. It is priced between ₹22.07 lakh – 25.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Toyota has not yet announced the price of the all-new Hilux, the prices will be revealed before the deliveries begin in March.
