The midsize SUV segment has been growing rapidly, and manufacturers are bringing in new entrants to keep up the tough competition. The Toyota-Suzuki joint venture is working on a new midsize SUV for the Indian market. Moreover, the manufacturers will unveil the SUV next year and will roll out the SUV in 2023.

Here’s What we know about the upcoming SUV:

Toyota-Suzuki SUV: Production

The new mid-size SUV will come in a 7-seater layout, which will position itself against Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus. Toyota and Suzuki will manufacture the new SUV at Toyota’s manufacturing facility in Bidadi. In fact, this same production line was in use to develop the Toyota Yaris sedan.

Toyota-Suzuki SUV: Exterior Styling

Maruti is making a shift towards bold and crisp design styling. The new Vitara Brezza and S-cross showcase the aggressive exterior styling. In fact, the car coming from the Japanese joint venture will definitely have a bold and quirky exterior design styling.

Interior and Tech

Comfort and safety have become important aspects in the Indian automotive market. To compete with the existing SUVs the Toyota -Suzuki JV will have to provide a premium cabin. Hence, the SUV will come with modern features such as a large infotainment touchscreen, an electric sunroof, all-LED lighting, up to 6 airbags, etc.


As more Indian cars are achieving 5 stars in the Global NCAP safety rating. Maruti will have to bring in a strong car to compete against the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 700. Maruti is aiming for a 5-star safety rating for the upcoming SUV. Furthermore, the upcoming SUV will be built on Toyota’s Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA), This is a low-cost variant of Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA).


The upcoming SUV is expected to feature Suzuki’s tried & tested 1.5-litre gasoline engine with a connected mild-hybrid system. Moreover, this engine can deliver 104bhp and 138Nm of peak torque. Also, Suzuki is working on a 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine. this motor might come in the upcoming SUV. Also, the manufacturer might use the 1.4L Boosterjet engine that currently comes in the global-spec Swift Sport.

Only limited information is available about the Upcoming SUV from Toyota – Suzuki partnership. This SUV will rival the likes of Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector plus, and Hyundai Alcazar. Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming SUV.
