Tata Motors has now introduced a dedicated EV subsidiary called the Tata Passenger Electric Mobility limited (TPEML). The new EV division is now responsible for designing, developing and manufacturing all types of services related to electric mobility.

This dedicated EV division will strengthen the homegrown carmaker’s position in the EV market. Back in October, Tata gathered a total of ₹7,500 crores for its EV division from different firms. However, Tata Motors will hold 100 per cent ownership of the division. The newly registered TPEML division will have an initial capital of ₹700 crores to start off with.

The TPEML received the certificate of incorporation on December 21st from the Ministry of Corporate affairs. From now on, the TPEML will be responsible for developing and manufacturing all types of services related to electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles.

Tata aims to vastly improve their EV fleet and secure a respectably amount of EV market share. This new division could accelerate the development of new flexible battery-electric vehicles platforms and new technologies.

Other local and international carmakers have already established dedicated EV divisions. Mahindra has Mahindra electric, BMW has the i-Division and Mercedes have the EQ division looking after the development of EVs.

Tata Motors EV plans

Tata Motors has also promised to introduce 10 EVs by 2026. Their current EV portfolio comprises Tiago EV and Nexon EV.

Reportedly Tata is working on multiple EVs such as the Tiago EV and Altroz EV. While the Tiago EV is set to be launched in 2022, the Altroz EV will be the next in line to launch which has been spotted testing several times.

Also, there is going to be a long-range (around 400km) version of the existing Nexon EV. Most likely, the SUV will debut in H2 2022.

The next launch from Tata is going to be the Tiago and Tigor CNG versions. Select dealerships have already commenced unofficial pre-bookings for the cars ahead of launch. In the recent spy shots, the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG was spotted along with the Punch CNG.
