Upcoming car launches in India: SUV and hatchback

There are a few expected car launches from Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, M&M and Hyundai. The first car expected is Tata’s micro SUV, the Punch. The punch is expected to be unveiled in September and will go against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100. Next on the list is the Maruti Suzuki Celerio which is expected in the festive season. The recently confirmed Hyundai Casper will arrive in India in early 2022. Lastly, the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio which has been spied on several times is expected to debut early next year. Let’s dive in and get into the details.

Tata Punch

Several official images of the upcoming Punch mini-SUV have already been released, revealing its production version. HBX is a concept car that made its debut at the 2020 Detroit Auto Show. There is a lot of continuity between the concept and the final model. There is a slight tone-down in the rear section of the vehicle. Punch will have traction modes (first-in-segment), hill start assist, and hill descent control, according to the teaser images. Altroz’s interior may be similar. The Tata Punch is expected to have a 1.2L NA petrol engine with 85bhp and a 1.2L turbo petrol engine with 100bhp. Either manual or auto-transmission (AMT) options will be available. From Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh, the price of the new Tata mini SUV is expected to drop in the near future (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki Celerio

The next-gen Celerio was supposed to arrive in 2021 during the holiday season. Recent reports, however, indicate it will be delayed until the end of the year due to a shortage of semiconductors. From inside out, the 2021 Celerio Maruti will be a major part of Heartect’s platform. That’s not all. Also included are a new instrument cluster, new upholstery and multifunctional steering wheel, as well as an updated 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity. A 69bhp, 1.0L NA petrol engine will power the new Maruti Celerio, which will be available with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT transmission. According to reports, the WagonR’s 82bhp 1.2L NA petrol engine will also be offered.

Hyundai Casper

According to reports, the Hyundai Casper micro SUV will arrive in India in early 2022. It has already been circulated online with exterior and interior images. Boxy in shape, it features LED headlamps with DRL, a silver grille with triangular motif, a silver skid plate that looks like metal, a flat bonnet and wheel arches that are squared off, dual-tone alloy wheels, triangular LED light motif on the tailgate, and circular taillamps. 3595mm in length, 1595mm in width and a 1575mm height will be the dimensions of the micro SUV. According to reports, the Casper will be available with a 1.0L turbo petrol and a 1.0L naturally aspirated gasoline engine. Also, the 1.2L Nios or Santro engines from the Grand i10 could be offered.

Mahindra Scorpio

The latest spy images confirm that the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will come with a new touchscreen infotainment system, a 360-degree parking camera, dual-tone leatherette upholstery, a flat bottom multi-functional steering wheel, and the forward-facing third-row seat. The new Scorpio is estimated to cost from Rs 12 lakh to Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). In addition to the new touchscreen infotainment system, the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will have a 360-degree parking camera, dual-tone leatherette upholstery, a flat bottom multi-function steering wheel, and a forward-facing third-row seat, according to the latest spy images released. New Scorpio is expected to cost between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 18 lakh (approximately) (ex-showroom).
