There are going to be new additions to the Compact SUV segment, like the locally developed Citroen C21(codename), Skoda Kushaq, and Jeep is getting prepared to launch a small SUV in 2022-2023. To keep up with the tight competition the present Compact SUVs like the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Mahindra XUV300 will enter into a new generation in the near future. These cars have been in the market for quite some time now with a mild life facelift given in between. Let’s take a look at the upcoming compact SUVs.
Next Generation Tata Nexon
Tata has acquired a new design altogether and has produced some pretty good cars over the last few years, including the Tata Nexon. The SUV has been one of the famous and successful products for the brand and high safety standards and good ride quality has made it a top choice among buyers. The car which was updated back in 2020 is due for another update. This time it is huge and the company has decided to push it to the next generation. To update the SUV to its current portfolio, the company will use the new ALFA platform putting an end to the existing one.
The new ALFA ( Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture is currently in use for the Altroz, and the upcoming HBX based SUV. This new platform is designed to adapt all body styles like hatchback, sedan, compact SUV and MPV and Also supports both fossil fuel and electric powertrains. The Nexon SUV will follow the brand’s IMPACT 2.0 design language to improve its design and styling. Also, vast improvements inside with updated features, safety, cabin space and quality.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
Maruti Suzuki is working on the next generation Brezza which was updated with a mild facelift back in 2020. The SUV was initially launched in 2016 and the company has decided to move on to the next generation of the Brezza. It is expected by the end of 2021 or early 2022. We are expecting significant design changes both on the exterior and interior. The overall profile will be maintained but the new SUV is expected to be slightly larger than the current model. The design is going to be rugged and simple as in the current model. The car will be sitting on Suzuki’s new advanced lightweight platform known as the HEARTECT platform which underpins the S-Cross.
The Brezza will be equipped with modern interiors with an improved finish and material quality. The engine options however will be the same K15B 1.5L petrol engine but this time a stronger hybrid system which will make use of a bigger battery and powerful electric motor. The SUV will come with advanced features like wireless charging, electric sunroof, wireless Andriod Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The homegrown carmaker Mahindra has planned to launch 9 new SUVs in the coming years. One of them is the next generation XUV300, which was launched back in 2019. The car has been a good competitor in the market, but the SUV is getting old and to keep up with the competition it has to be reworked entirely. Mahindra has confirmed an electric powertrain for the XUV300 in the future. We still don’t have detailed information on the car, but the launch is expected by 2024.
