Volkswagen, the German automaker will be launching the 2021 Taigun this year. The Taigun is a midsize SUV and is a sister model to the Skoda Kusaq which shall be launched in June 2021. They both are based on the same platform known as MQB-A0-IN. 

Volkswagen Taigun | Design 

Though Taigun shares its platform with Kushaq there are a lot of different features which will be equipped onto the Taigun which will set it apart from the Kusaq as the VW group is focused on setting the Taigun apart from the Kushaq. Taigun shall come equipped with single-piece headlamps, Two slated chrome grills, and a chrome insert which are the new features in all the new VW car models. Also unlike the Kushaq, Taigun’s tail lights run all across the tailgate along with the chrome accent of the tailgate. When it comes to the interiors of the car the VW as usual maintains its class with a splendid looking design and the infotainment system being perfectly incorporated into the dashboard.

Features and Tech Equipment

The Taigun is loaded with features. The higher-end model comes with a 10-inch infotainment system along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is also provided with the My Volkswagen Connect app which gives the owner access to the car connected features. VW also provides automatic climate control, USB type-C charging ports, wireless charging pads etc in the Taigun. The Taigun is fitted with important features like  6 airbags, Tyre pressure deflation warning, ESC and ISOFIX child seat mounts to name a few.


The Taigun is available in two turbo petrol range of options both of which are from the TSI family of engines. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI unit will make a horsepower of 115 and a torque of 175 Nm. The larger 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine will be making a horsepower of 150 and a torque of 250 Nm. The two TSI engines come with 6-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0-litre engine has a 6-speed automatic torque converter and the 1.5-litre engine has a 7-speed DCT automatic.


The Taigun will be competing against a lot of competition from cars of various brands like the MG, Mahindra, Tata, Hyundai etc. Compared to its competition Taigun will be smaller than the rest with dimensions 4.2m in length, 1.76m in width and 1.6m in height. Its smaller frame will be more significantly visible when compared to the bigger cars in the segment like the Hector or the Harrier. It will be Launching in the mid-size SUV market with a price range similar to its rivals. Taigun will face fierce competition as the  Mid-size SUV market is the most sought after in the Indian market. But will it be able to stand out with its German quality and reliability and outperform its rivals?
