The launch of the Volkswagen Virtus is getting closer and is slated for a world premiere in first week of March 2022. The midsize sedan will relace the Vento that is in the market for a dozen years.

Spotted testing multiple times in India, the Virtus is one of the anticipated launches from VW. The launch was pushed ahead due to the pandemic and now the way looks clear for the sedan.

What do we know so far?

The Virtus will share VW’s MQB A0 IN platform specially made for India. It also underpins the Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun and recently-launched sibling, the Skoda Slavia. This will be the 4th car under the VW groups India 2.0 strategy.

It is going to be dimensionally bigger than the Vento with improved features.  The Skoda Slavia and the Virtus will share most of the design elements and mechanical components. The only difference we could expect is the front and rear end of the Virtus, where VW will implement their magic to separate the siblings apart.

The Virtus is most likely to get its feature list from the Taigun SUV. Such as the 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech, fully digital instrument cluster, sunroof, wireless charging, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, LED headlamps, tyre pressure monitor, keyless entry and more.

Under the hood, the Virtus will feature the same 2 petrol engine options as the other siblings. A 1.0-litre TSI motor pushing 110hp and a 1.5-litre TSI motor pushing 150hp.

The Virtus is aimed at rivalling the segment leader Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Skoda counterpart Slavia.
